ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2008 AND PLANS FOR 2009
We the team of MM family wish to express our gratitude to you all for
the recommendable work that you have done to uplift the living
conditions of MM families here in Isiolo . The mark is noticeable
by many and we all say may the work of your hands expand
in great value.
The weather now is warm and very hot it is the hottest month of
the year. But we here are used to the weather. The dry season has
caused the country to experience intensive famine that in some part
of the country, some people have died of hunger. It is so sad that
despite the government effort to give people food they can’t achieve
much. But we are glad to inform you that none of MM family was
affected to the extent of death your support was able to sustain them.
Your support for the year 2008 was great because life had become
unbearable a packet of 2kg of maize mail is costing up to
130 Kenya shillings, while the most needed food i.e. maize is up to
Ksh. 50 and beans Ksh. 80-100. Many people who are lucky would do
with one meal for two days and most go with no meal for more days.
Porridge is now the main food for most of the families. It has been hard
life and still it is becoming more difficult every day.
Your support enabled us to buy rice, maize and beans for the families
this was greatly appreciated by all the families please see
the enclosed photos. The greatest challenge we are having as
the management of MM is the cost of living which is going up every
day and this affect the activities the families are doing and some
business are affected downward. But this will not deter us from
strengthening them in their activities.
ACTIVITIES ACHIEVED 2008
v EDUCATION
Despite the hardship children supported have been
maintained in school , their fees paid and met other requirements
such as school uniform , shoes , and text books.
We also supported 5 girls from the MM families to be trained
on tailoring in order to empower the families on self- sustainability .
See some enclosed photos we hope they will look for employment
and help in support of their families. These are girls who could not
continue with education either due to luck of school fees or early
pregnancy which is common due to poverty .
v HEALTH
All children were vaccinated against typhoid and malaria
including their families because we realized if treat only the supported
children, there might be contamination hence end up infecting them again.
v INCOME GENERATING ACTIVITIES
Indeed it has been a struggle to maintain and sustain these activities,
however all is not lost. The team assessed the performance and
advised them accordingly . Some lost hope and so we could not
consider them in allocation of more funds for their business this will
teach them a lesson that if they get the hook and fish, then
the business of getting the fish by themselves never last long!
Therefore they were given time to reorganize themselves and share
their ideas when we meet in the next meeting with them. We all
understand that economy has crippled most of the people but we are
proud to inform you that 70% are doing well .
The following ladies received cash support for their business:
1) Mother of Joy Kanana Ksh 5,000
2)Mother of Mwendwa Kiugu Ksh 3,000
3)Mother of Esther Kanana Ksh 5,000

1) GLORY KAIMURI By time of our visit the mother was still selling
fruits and milk she have managed to buy a bed for Glory and the sisters
to use because before they were sleeping on the floor.
2) DENIS KAIMENYI The chicken project is doing well over last
Christmas time the mother sold 50 eggs and bought a table for the children
to use while doing their studies at home. Her plans for this year are to buy
some wood chair and add more chicken to increase the yield.
3) DENIS MWENDA The mother has started vending vegetables while
the father is still a carpenter. The parents are able to sustain themselves.
4) JOSPHINE & STELLA The parents live separately after domestic
wrangles however she, the mother, managed to buy a goat. We will keep on
supporting her and make sure she comes out strong for the girls.
5) JOY KANANA Despite the severe drought Meru has never been completely
dry. The family received fertilizer and seeds for farming and they did well.
They were able to harvest good number of potatoes which they will sell.
6) MWENDWA KIUGU her mother is doing well in fruits business though
after the price shot up she is not able to buy enough to sell like before. Her
struggle is worthy because she is very aggressive. The mother was able to buy
a table from her savings.

The parents would wish to be supported to buy seeds and fertilizer. She got
school uniform and other school requirements.

She is still on medication and looks very healthy. Mercy is now in 8th grade
and will be joining secondary school next year. She is doing well in school
despite the challenges they are facing. MM team has always been there for them.
Their elder brother is also in 4th grade in secondary school he had fee problem
but it is now solved.
9) NELIZA NKIROTE The mother has maintained the milk cow which is
giving them milk for family consumption and for sale. The mother is
determined to build a house from her savings.
PROJECTED ACTIVITIES FOR 2009
In our last meeting we discussed at length and realized that if we
venture into supporting the families in much more broader way it
can eave a greater mark. It is long term plan but we leave a space
for you too to share the idea with us.
Our intents are as follows;
In order to curb typhoid , worms and other bacterial infections
we need to ensure the waste disposal is healthy, therefore we
purpose to construct pit latrine for them but in cost sharing ,
we provide the material and they
provide the labour. (This will be prioritized according to the
needs of the families not everybody who will get a toilet
but those who are in dare need.)
We support them in repairing their house because some live in
very desperate housing; we do not intend to change their li
but to improve their living conditions. E.g. repairing the houses
by helping them to buy iron sheets for roofing and other local
available materials.
(This will also not be for everybody but those in daring
need to be assisted.)
We will continue to buy them cereals as long as the famine is
persistent. People are surviving with only one day’s meal which at
days is porridge that serves as lunch and supper. Food has
be come the most challenging issue to every body here in Kenya .
We will also ensure that children are in school by paying their
fees and meet all their education requirements.
Good health is vital therefore we will ensure that the children get
medical attention whenever necessary
